Self-care practices such as yoga and meditation, therapies such as reiki and sound healing, as well as pure ceremonial cacao, all help you to relax your body, calm your nervous system, clear your mind and ultimately reduce stress and worry.

Deep breathing exercises, calming yoga postures and meditation help to quieten your thoughts and promote deep rest and relaxation. Incorporating a regular yoga or meditation practice into your self-care routine can help create a sense of calm and relaxation, making it easier to fall asleep and get a good night's rest.

 

Sound healing contributes to a better nights sleep as the frequency and vibration of sound healing instruments, stimulate the alpha and theta brainwave frequencies, which occur during early and deep phases of sleep.

 

Pure ceremonial cacao is a muscle relaxant and also contains a very high amount of magnesium. Magnesium may improve your sleep by helping to calm you, while relieving symptoms of anxiety and depression which may be affecting sleep.

Reiki energy healing helps to bring harmony and balance to both sides  of the brain and activates the parasympathetic part of the nervous system, which brings the nervous system out of flight and fight response and into a state of rest and restore. Reiki provides a deeply meditative experience and at times may induce a sleep state during treatment.

 

As reiki helps to relieve symptoms of stress like worry and overthinking, anxiety and depression, it also helps to balance the energy centres of the body known as chakras, which restores balance, and provides an overall sense of well-being within the individual.

Meditation can help to create a deep sense of inner peace, as we learn to observe our thoughts, feelings and all other experiences without attachment or judgement, allowing everything to be just as it is, with acceptance and grace. These practices and techniques reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression by calming the nervous system, creating connection and balance between mind and body, and allowing for a greater connection to the present moment. Therapies such as sound healing and reiki promote deep rest and relaxation.  

Sound healing is a form of therapy that uses sound waves to induce relaxation, a meditative state and deep rest. This type of therapy is also based on the idea that different sounds can have a positive impact on the body and mind, and can help to relax the body, reduce stress, and promote feelings of well-being. Sound healing can help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression by stimulating the same brain waves seen in states of relaxation and contributes to physiological benefits through nature-based sound therapy. For example, listening to the sounds of nature, rain falling, or waves crashing, can help promote relaxation and reduce stress.

 

Pure ceremonial cacao increases dopamine production and elevates mood. The high content of magnesium in cacao helps to promote mental clarity and focus while also helping to ease symptoms of depression, PMS, peri-menopause and anxiety.

 Through mindful movement and breathwork, yoga brings the body and mind into balance, creating equanimity, calming the nervous system,  and promoting mindfulness so that you are present in the moment and not constantly worrying about the past or future.

Yoga and meditation create a mind-body connection and through practice, allow a deep sense of self awareness, self observation and self inquiry. Through connection to the true inner self, by way of these practices, we learn to become the witness behind our thoughts and feelings so that we are more aware of the constant chatter of the mind and we can learn to slow, control and even master our thoughts, which helps to quieten the mind, and brings us peace.

Focusing on the breath helps to provide a distraction from the stresses, worries and anxieties of daily life. Breathwork helps to create an inner stillness, allowing for a calmer outlook on life.

 

Sound healing activates and stimulates brain waves related to states of rest, relaxation, a meditative and dream-like state, as well as sleep, therefore helping to reduce stress levels through rest and relaxation.

 

Reiki energy healing helps to bring us into a deeply meditative and calm state. Reiki activates our parasympathetic nervous system, which brings us out of 'fight or flight' mode and into 'rest and digest' mode, which is why it is so beneficial to the body on so many levels, as it manages the general balance and function of our vital organs when we are not in a state of stress. Reiki brings deep relaxation to the body, mind, and energy system, restores balance, activates the body’s self-healing and provides an overall sense of well-being within the individual.

 

Pure ceremonial cacao relaxes smooth muscle tissue, provides mental focus, enhances creativity, and  lifts mood and energy levels for an extended period.

Practicing yoga, breathwork and meditation helps to develop mindfulness and clear the mind of constant unnecessary chatter and distracting thoughts while anchoring us in the present moment as we focus on the breath, movement or pure consciousness during the stillness of meditation.

 

Ceremonial cacao contains theobromine which is found almost exclusively in cacao. Theobromine is a gentle, long lasting cardio vascular stimulant which helps to lift mood and energy levels for an extended period without the crash which we may experience with coffee. It provides mental focus and clarity, enhances attentiveness and creativity.

 

Sound healing stimulates the beta brain waves which are active when we are awake, as well as the gamma brain waves which are related to concentration, focus and learning.

 

Reiki energy healing helps to bring us back into the present moment and induces a sense of calm, clarity and focus. This can really benefit anyone who suffers from stress and anxiety as when we are anxious, we are focusing on what is ahead and not necessarily the present moment. Reiki energy healing helps to redirect our energy and focus and as it can relieve symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, it enables calm, clarity and focus. Reiki aims to restore balance, activate the body’s self-healing and provide an overall sense of well-being within the individual.

Britt Meyer is a Yoga Alliance Professionals affiliated and certified, experienced Yoga Teacher and Holistic Therapist working with sound therapy and reiki energy healing. Owner of Sunwood Sanctuary, the founder and creator of Sunwood Selfcare, a Level 3 certified Sound Healing Practitioner and facilitator, a certified Ceremonial Cacao Practitioner and facilitator and a certified Third Degree Usui Traditional Reiki Practitioner. Britt holds a Reiki 3 Master Practitioner's Diploma, which is an academic, government regulated qualification and the highest level of training in Reiki.
